As our national final is less than a month away, we think it is the perfect time to get to know the businesses vying for our coveted national awards. Over the next few weeks we will be taking a look at each of our twelve categories in turn, from Best Rural Start Up all the way through to the Triumph Over Adversity award.

Each national finalist has already won the award for their category in their own region. We think they’re all fantastic rural businesses, but who will our judges declare to be the cream of the crop?

 Animated Technologies – Wales & Northern Ireland Region

Animated Technologies is a technical marketing and animation production agency. Creating animated videos for B2B companies, from 2D explainer videos to 3D product launch videos. Their work ranges from big impact product launches, full scope video marketing strategies and campaigns, through to dynamic explainer videos. They utilise a highly creative process to digitally market a product or service for their clients.

 

SoGlos – South West Region

SoGlos is an independent online lifestyle magazine for Gloucestershire, and one of the only commercially successful examples in the whole UK. It was launched in 2007 by two local journalists at the brink of the internet media revolution and the decline in print media, and has since gone from strength to strength as an example of good journalism made commercially viable, serving a modern audience through web, email and social via desktops and mobiles.

 

TAP – South East Region

The Ad Plain (TAP) is an agency of content specialists, connecting brands with humans. A leading agency in world agriculture, TAP’s extensive range of services includes: content creation, social media, digital experiences, branding and design, contract publishing, and media planning. 

When TAP was established in 2002 the aim was simple – to create an agency culture which was made up of good people, great clients and a supportive working environment. The team at TAP are talented, like-minded people who concentrate their energies on supporting and making a real difference for their clients.

 

The Farmart Magazine – North Region

The Farmart is a monthly magazine delivered free to over 6,500 working farmers and rural residents in Cheshire and surrounding counties. Readers request to subscribe, so it’s not sent out unsolicited. The Farmart is also available in dispensers at livestock markets and agricultural merchants for people to pick up a free copy. Predominantly advertising-led, the publication is a directory of agricultural suppliers and services and is kept by the phone as an essential reference source for farmers. Although the magazine has been trading successfully for 36 years, it’s within the last 6 months that it has modernised significantly under new ownership.

 

The Visual Works – Midlands Region

Working from a converted barn just north of Ludlow, The Visual Works have been creatively beavering away in the heart of beautiful South Shropshire for the past 24 years. They are an award winning digital, design and marketing agency, specialising in web and brochure design and brand creation. As a small rural agency, Ben and his team have a passion for supporting a wealth of exciting SMEs from the local area and building long lasting relationships with them. They offer a rare combination of creative flair, business wisdom and digital know-how to deliver real, measurable results for their clients.

 

Vidoo Film – East Region

Vidoo Film is a creative and independent film, TV and video production company based in the heart of the Suffolk countryside. They specialise in online and branded video content which challenges, engages and inspires people. They may only be a small business, but they have had the opportunity to work with some of the biggest agencies, brands and companies in the UK and Europe. They like to think that being rural doesn’t restrict their business in any way. Founder Neil Horsman operates the business on his own, but has a huge pool of freelancers on the books who bring their own skills, experience and expertise to every shoot the business undertakes.
