As our national final is less than three weeks away, we think it is the perfect time to get to know the businesses vying for our coveted national awards. Over the next few weeks we will be taking a look at each of our twelve categories in turn, from Best Rural Start Up all the way through to the Triumph Over Adversity award.
Each national finalist has already won the award for their category in their own region. We think they’re all fantastic rural businesses, but who will our judges declare to be the cream of the crop?

Canvas & Campfires – Wales and Northern Ireland Region
Canvas & Campfires offers luxury safari-tent glamping in rural Wales. The smallholding that is home to Canvas & Campfires provides a beautiful mix of history, tradition and luxury; the perfect place for kids to explore and adults to relax. Whilst on-site guests can help in the running of the farm, which is kept in check by a flock of rare-breed sheep, a trio of friendly pigs and some surprisingly plucky chickens. Kids can roam free and tales of the days adventures can be gleefully recounted around the campfire. Adults can relax and unwind, enjoying sunsets from the decks of the tents.
Cottage in the Dales – North Region
Discover unique ‘Distinctly Dales’ experiences in the Yorkshire Dales National Park with Cottage in the Dales. The business is multi-award winning for both luxury accommodation and inclusive tourism. Each cottage has its own appeal, as individual as each guest. The owners, Diane and Andrew, pride themselves on delivering a luxury experience. Nothing is too much trouble, no detail overlooked, ensuring guests feel at home whether visiting for the first or tenth time; warmly-lit fire, premium toiletries, best local produce, accessible facilities, taking you to a local restaurant for special occasions or simply walking and attraction recommendations.
Hall Farm Park – Midlands Region
Hall Farm Park is a family-run tourist attraction set on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds. Visitors are welcome to meet the friendly animals, including goats that can be taken for a walk, lambs to bottle feed and a tractor ride to meet and feed the cattle.
Onsite there are also indoor and outdoor play areas to cater for all ages, including crazy golf and a fully heated play barn that ensure all weather fun.
The Select Lincolnshire Award-winning tearoom serves a range of home made and locally made produce suitable for all dietary requirements. School visits and birthday parties are welcomed. Hall Farm Park is the perfect family day out.
MarGins Walking and Glamping Holidays – East Region
MarGins Walking and Glamping Holidays help guests immerse themselves in walking holidays along the Norfolk Coast Path National Train, an area of outstanding natural beauty, by setting up their glamping accommodation along the route and transporting their luggage. Or, they’ll set up one of their fully equipped tents on a campsite of choice along the Norfolk Coast for a hassle free luxury camping holiday. They cover the full 84 miles of the Norfolk Coast Path National Trail. Their guests experience some of the most remote areas of the Norfolk coastline, only accessible by foot.
Nettlecombe Farm – South East Region
Situated on the southern side of the Isle of Wight, Nettlecombe Farm nestles in typically rolling and extremely picturesque island countryside, a working farm that offers luxurious self-catering holiday accommodation, coarse fishing and yoga retreats.
The farm, which has been in the Morris family for over a century, has no fewer than nine converted self-catering properties, three coarse fishing lakes as well opportunities to meet and feed the residents, including alpacas, donkeys, goats, reindeer, and even an emu.
With the highest environmental credentials, Nettlecombe Farm offers guests the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the rural way of life.
River Dart Country Park – South West Region
River Dart Country Park is a camping and touring site and small visitor attraction located beside the A38, within Dartmoor National Park. The award-winning tourist attraction boasts 90 acres of stunning parkland. With woodland, scenic walks and beautiful lakes, River Dart Country Park is the perfect location for outdoor activities and family events. The adventure playgrounds include a Mini Zip Wire, Pirate Ship and lake with desert island, Assault Course, Pump Track and Lilliput for toddlers. Instructor led outdoor activities are also available, known as Dare Devil activities; including Water Zorbs, High Ropes Course, Mega Zip Wire and much more.
