This award celebrates new businesses and will recognise those that show the journey that they have taken towards establishing a business that is excelling in its chosen market. This will be demonstrated by sharing with us a clear strategy, with an understanding of the marketplace as well as targets that have been met or exceeded in relation to growth and financial performance. The winning business will have created the foundations for continued commercial success. This award will go to the company that best demonstrates the following:

Accessible Holiday Escapes is an award-winning website created by a family living with disability, designed to enable travellers with disabilities to find quality accessible accommodation. Their unique website features over 50 accessible options including cottages, barns, safari tents, glamping barns, and a railway carriage; with the majority of the accessible escapes based in rural locations. With the motto ‘Dream. Search. Escape’, Accessible Holiday Escapes aim to showcase a wide range of accommodation choices meaning that people living with disability in the UK can find their dream holiday escape with ease.
Detling Community Store
Detling Community Store is a new local convenience store, coffee shop and post office formed by a passionate group of local residents determined to bring the heart back in to the village. The store is made up of two containers joined together, features a deli counter and outside decking. Detling Community Store aims to be a destination store for the surrounding community, providing a unique range of stock that is unavailable in the area, such as local produce and refillables. Alongside two paid staff, more than 30 volunteers ensure the successful running of the store.
Best Rural Start Up Business Finalists
Countrybike are a unique new model of cycle hire and servicing business focussed on opening up rural cycle routes and supporting local rural businesses. They use a combination of mobile app enabled technology alongside a delivery and collection service to facilitate bike hire and the servicing of bikes in Kent and East Sussex. Countrybike’s aim is to enable families to get out for the day and exercise together in the fresh country air; allowing people time to really get under the skin of the local countryside, to take in the stunning views, vast woodlands and meandering rivers.
Little Birds Forest Nurseries Ltd
Little Birds Forest Nursery is an outdoor nursery school creating an innovative new approach to early years childcare. Based in a small rural village, they offer affordable and exceptional early years education and care whilst connecting children with nature through forest and coastal school and by making the most of the surrounding beautiful environments. Little Birds Forest Nursery are also launching subsided training in outdoor learning, forest and coastal schools education for students aged 14 plus – offering real, transferable skills and a qualification to begin a career in facilitating relationships with ALL local natural environments.
Tanki Ltd is a partnership of like-minded individuals determined to rise from the ashes of COVID-19. They developed Tanki, a toilet tissue created to solve an engineering problem. Tanki’s unique properties avoid tank and pipe blockage in rural and older premises, without compromising on the quality expected from similar domestic products. During development it transpired that lamination glue, used in conventional production, causes build-up from adhesive film and a hitherto unrecognised environmental issue of plastics discharge directly out to sea. Tanki toilet tissue is a water laminated, glue-free product designed to prevent blockage and degradation whilst protecting the marine environment.
The Saddle Bank
The Saddle Bank was established in December 2016 to offer horse owners a safe place to purchase quality used saddles online that are competitively priced and delivered direct to their door. They also offer customers a five day trial on all saddles, enabling customers to try the saddle on their horse and have a local qualified saddle fitter assess the fit for horse and rider. The name ‘The Saddle Bank’, refers to the definition of ‘bank’ meaning “a site where something may be deposited for recycling”. The Saddle Bank specialise in ‘recycling’ quality used saddles, by finding them a new home.
